Eldership
The Elders’ function is to exercise spiritual and pastoral oversight. In the New Testament there is the recognition that these should be Christian men of mature faith who are set apart to supervise the work of the church.
They are to guide the Church Family spiritually and to be listened to and obeyed on spiritual matters (Hebrews 13:17). Expected to be an example to others (1 Peter 5:3) they are also expected to be able to teach, guard the doctrines of the faith, manage the church and be men of vision. It’s a tall order and one which needs a lot of prayerful support.
Current Elders
At present we have one elder:-

David Salisbury
David and his wife, Carol, worked with Youth With A Mission for ten
years where they were very much involved with the Discipleship Training
Schools (DTS), first in the Republic of Ireland and then more locally at
Holmsted Manor in Staplefield. They came to Burgess Hill when they
left YWAM in 1992 and quickly found a home at the church. Having joined
the leadership team for the youth club shortly after their arrival,
they later took the helm for this for a few years. David has served as a
home group leader and, for nine years, as deacon. He stepped down to
take a break November 2017 and was subsequently appointed to the
eldership in March 2018.
David has a heart for discipleship - to help and encourage Christians, young and old (in all senses!), to constant growth. |
